Little White Liar's Weekly Challenge
Do you guys know this sassy lady?

You should.

She's really great. I find her blog to be one of the most enjoyable out there. We're blog friends, because I want her talent to rub off on me.

She issued a challenge to her readers this week. She asked her mom about her first impression of the man that was to become her father. She told us to do the same.

So I gave my ma a ring. She was confused, at first, as to why I was asking her this. And then she said "I'm not sure I want the world to read this."

I said "Ma. The world does not read my little blog."

"Are all of the people who read it your boyfriends?"

"No! Ma, you're getting my blog confused with online dating."

"Oh. Do you do that too?"

"No. I'm too awkward. I prefer to send nudie photos to Riker's Island inmates."

"That's not funny, Meagan."

"It is, just a little. They're TV stars! They're on Law and Order all the time!"

"I'm not telling you anything if you keep teasing."

"I'm SORRY. Please? Please tell me? What first attracted you to my father?"

"Did you know his nickname was Moose?"

"Oh, how-not-at-all charming. No. You mean like in Archie and Jughead? Midge's boyfriend? Weird."

"He was very smart and he liked board games. I thought that was great."

"How did you meet him?"

"He was dating my sister."

"Damn, Ma! You stole her man!"

"Oh, no, not at all. She'd kill me for that. I picked up her leftovers. She broke up with him because he got too drunk and annoyed her. Then he sent her flowers and she threw them away."

"And you were still into that?"

"I had low self-esteem. Don't be like me. He was just very oddly charismatic. And he was so, so smart. And he had this dog that he loved. He was so sweet to that dog. That dog would eventually become best friends with MY dog!"

This is true. Even during the phase of my parents' divorce where they weren't speaking a WORD to each other, they would get together in the park so that my mom's dog and my dad's dog could play.

"So you liked him because he was a board game playing animal lover with a brain?"

"Yeah. But also because I had low self-esteem and I thought I couldn't do any better and PLEASE DON'T BE LIKE ME AND WHY DO YOU BREAK UP WITH EVERYONE WHO IS NICE TO YOU???"

"Ma, I have another call. I love you! Bye!"

"Bye bye!"

Your turn!

I really think your ma should be a guest star on your blog. She could come in and lighten the mood when things get tense. Like Mona on Who's the Boss. (only without the sluttiness)

I love this post. It perfectly encompasses how uncomfortable it is to talk to parents about these things.

Oh my gosh you guys, I didn't mean to make you all crawly-skinned! I'm so sorry. I was totally cracking up when my mom told me her story. Maybe I have less respect for romance than you gals. Ehhh! I hope you don't regret writing it. And that you will maybe write my next one. :) Plus, I love how you flip the discomfort onto your mom in like, every conversation with her.
